Strapping and Strapping Equipment

Strapping and strapping equipment are a pivotal part of the shipping process. Whether you are looking to secure packages for storage, stacking, or just for transport, having the proper strapping material and equipment is key.

When operating a warehouse two things are important, the first being how you get your packages out the door and to their destination in one piece. The other is the health and safety of your employees who are preparing those packages for shipment. Strapping and strapping equipment are used to secure items together to protect them during packaging, storing, and the shipping process.

If you are looking for a way to protect your products from damage or unnecessary loss, you need strapping to keep your load immobilized during transport. Minimizing loose ends during transport will keep your loads secure and ensure that your products reach their destination in one piece.

You can safely move loads of all shapes and sizes with confidence using our steel or plastic strapping. Which type of strapping your product needs will depend on the products you are packaging. Strapping products work well with individual products, pallets, strapping stackable items, loading railcars, and palletizing.

Strapping can also help to protect your inventory, open space in your warehouse, and increase the strength of your pallets so they can stack better on shelves for both shipping and storage. By adding strapping to your packaging process, you can also increase the safety of your employees working with these loads due to the increased stability during handling.

What Are Strapping Materials Made of?

As one of the leading strapping suppliers, our strapping products are made of different materials including steel strapping or plastic strapping. Plastic strapping is made of polyester or polypropylene. Which material you use depends on the type of load you are working with and the strength of strapping necessary to fully secure your load.

Heavy duty products will require steel strapping while more fragile products might require polypropylene plastic strapping to keep from damaging the product. The key is to know the difference. Millenium’s knowledgeable strapping experts are available for consultation to ensure you choose a product that meets your specific needs.

When Should Strapping Products and Equipment be Used?

Strapping is used to secure products in a wide variety of industries. If you are shipping large industrial equipment or lumber, steel or polyester strapping would be a great option. When shipping smaller items such as in an eCommerce fulfillment center, you could use strapping products to keep your loads secure and in place for shipping and storing within the warehouse.

When to Switch to Machine Strapping vs Hand Strapping

Pallet strap can be used for hand strapping or machine strapping depending on your company’s needs. If you are shipping smaller, more delicate, or lower volume items then hand strapping might work best for you.

If you are packaging and shipping larger items or large volumes of packages, then machine packaging would be best. Adding automation to your packaging process will help to save you time and money. You will be able to get more products out the door in less time and increase your productivity.

Machine strapping also allows you to decrease labor costs due to the machine assistance. While this does require an increased investment upfront, you will be able to pay off that investment in no time with machine strapping.

Steel Strapping

Steel strapping is primarily used to reinforce shipments, unitize, and bundle materials. One of the benefits of steel strapping is the increased strength of each load, load retention, and increased break strength levels keeping your products secure during the entire shipping process.

Steel strapping comes in a variety of strengths from regular duty to high tensile strength depending on the needs of your load. If you are looking for a product that will keep your products in place with little movement throughout transport, then steel strapping is the right product for you.

Our steel pack strapping can be used manually by hand with the right tools. However, due to the increased muscle strength needed to work with hand strapping, it is recommended that a machine be used if you are strapping larger volumes of products. This saves your laborers from injury as they work hard to keep your products secure.

Plastic Strapping

Plastic strapping is used to strap a variety of products. They are made from polyester and polypropylene. Which formulation of strapping would depend on the products and packaging you are working with. These types of strapping can be a cost-effective alternative to heavy duty steel strapping.

Unlike steel, plastic strapping has some flexibility. This flexible material is great for loads that are not durable enough to withstand steel strapping. Steel strapping is rigid and able to hold larger and more durable loads, but those corrugated boxes or paper products may not be able to withstand the strength that steel strapping comes with.

Strapping Tools

When working with strapping materials to keep your loads secured, you need to ensure that you have quality strapping tools at your disposal. These tools make the strapping process easier and more streamlined, they reduce waste, minimize labor costs, and help to keep your employees safe as they package and transport products within the warehouse.

Strapping tools are used to seal strapping in place, protect those seals, keep container edges from being damaged, and allow you to get more products out the door with less. Strapping machines are a great example of how strapping tools can increase productivity, streamline processes, and maintain employee safety.

We have semi-automatic and automatic strapping machines available; our technicians are available to discuss your needs. Keep in mind we have turnkey programs so strapping tool maintenance and repair.

When Is Banding Preferred Over Strapping?

When trying to decide whether to choose banding supplies and equipment over strappings, you need to look at the tensile strength required to keep your load secure during the entire shipping process. Strapping materials, especially steel strapping, have a higher tensile strength than any banding equipment would.

Sustainability

At Millenium Packaging, we are dedicated to decreasing the carbon footprint throughout the packaging industry. That is why we choose products that are better for the environment. Steel strapping can be recycled into new products without losing any of its strength and durability. Several plastic strapping materials are made from recycled materials as well.
